It wasn’t easy, but you might say there is actually a science to it. I started with a list of 3-letter words. I categorized them, rhymed them, and ended up writing 6 entire books with them! I then expanded my word list to 4 letters long and wrote 5 more books. Expanding again to 5-letter words, I wrote the last 5 books. I kept track of many aspects at once: word length, phonetics, rhymes, parts of speech, syllables, and punctuation. I introduced new ideas in each book in a graduated fashion. I found that with only 5-letter words, I was able to present almost all phonetic structures in the English language. Throughout all this, I had to write catchy rhymes, tell interesting stories, and build and develop the character of Kit himself. While it was a ton of work, it was actually a lot of fun!
